Nitrogen fertilization
Calcium fertilization
Magnesium
Nitrogen fertilization takes place in 2-3 doses after the start of vegetation, shortly before flowering until the middle/end of June. The trees absorb the nitrogen predominantly in nitrate form. Nitrogen in the form of nitrate (anion) can promote the uptake of cations such as calcium (Ca++), magnesium (Mg++) and potassium (K+). N-doses can be applied specifically to the tree strips and only occasionally in the tramlines. Green tree strips reduce the risk of nutrient leaching. When using the tree strip, it should be noted that the N fertilizer should not be concentrated more than doubly; with P, K and Mg, the whole amount can be concentrated on the strip. N fertilization can be done very well in liquid form (herbicide joist or via irrigation) In new plants, fertilization is carried out corresponding to the tree structure. Applications between the half and the whole amount in plants that are in production are placed during the development phase up to the 4th year after planting.
This is done, in addition to the basic fertilization, for physiological disorders such as bitter pits, flesh browning, soft pulp, etc. with calcium as chloride, oxide or chelate. Often one to two treatments, 5 and 3 weeks before harvest, are sufficient. In case of susceptible varieties or with low fruit setting, 4-6 treatments, approximately every 10 days, are necessary. Calcium is important for cell wall strength and cell wall growth and thus, an adequate calcium supply is needed for good storage quality and shelf life.
Depending on the growth and yield behaviour, the annual extraction of pear trees amounts to approx. 30kg MgO/ha. 2/3 of the uptaken nutrients are found in the leaves, but they remain largely in the nutrient cycle. A favourable form of magnesium soil fertilization consists in the use of Mg-containing limestone in the course of a preservation liming. Pear trees are classified as mildly sensitive to chloride; fertilization is best done with low-chloride or chloride-free potash-based NPK fertilizers.
