Planting until first fruit growth - start with phosphate-rich fertilizer quantities From cultivation of the melon, at the beginning of growth, the plants need relatively little fertilizer amounts. Meagre fertilization and restrained irrigation increase root mass formation. Therefore, only about 1/12 of the nitrogen quantities, but already 40% of the total phosphorus quantities are allocated until the first flowering. For potash, only 1/30 of the total requirement quantity is given at this stage. Only then does demand increase.
First fruit batch to the end of fruiting - Balanced nutrition for flowering and fruiting From the beginning of flowering the flower and fruit formation of the melons and at the same time the continuous growth and the flowering, are to be promoted. Therefore, particularly balanced nutrient ratios are necessary. About 70kg N/ha, 40kg P2O5/ha and 120kg K2O/ha are administered at this stage. The magnesium and calcium supply should be given special consideration at this growth stage.
End of fruiting until the end of 1st fruit growth - complete fertilization with potassium focus important For melons, the fruit growing phase is the main fertilization phase. For the formation of the first fruit, each plant is fertilized with nitrogen (about 80kg N/ha) and potassium (about 120kg K2O/ha). Poorly formed fruits with a bad taste are the result of nutrient deficiency in this phase.
End of 1st fruit growth until end of cultivation - application of K-emphasized NPK fertilizers is important For the growth of further fruits, the plant needs an additional nutrient supply. In order to do justice to this, the amount of potash must be increased again to complete fruit formation and ripening. A chloride-free, concentrated, multi-nutrient fertilizer application of approx. 70kg N/ha, 25kg P2O5/ha and 130kg K2O/ha ensures the nutrient supply in the last fertilization phase. Melon fertilization can be stopped approx. two weeks before the end of the harvest. The last fruits then ripen with the nutrients still present in the plants.
